The red lip is as a timeless classic. It’s a look that never ‘goes out of style’ – hat tip to you Miss Taylor Swift! But achieving the perfect red lip can be, even for the biggest of makeup enthusiasts, a difficult task to achieve.

We’ve tried and tested all the red lip tips and tricks out there and now it’s time to share our ultimate 5 tips with you, our lovely #Cloud10Beauts! So let’s bring some old-Hollywood Glamour into the present day and get started.

Step 1 – Prep that pout

Pixi-Nourishing-Lip-PolishYour statement red lips will be the main focus of your entire look, so making sure that your lips are in prime condition is key. Give your lips some TLC and gently exfoliate with a lip polish like the Pixi Nourishing Lip Polish to prep your perfect pout. Follow this by sweeping on your favourite un-tinted lip balm (we’re loving NUXE Reve De Miel) to ensure that your lips are at their softest.

Step 2 – Minimal makeup

The old adage goes that you should focus on either a strong eye or lip look, never both at the same time. So when you’re wearing a red lip, your other makeup should be soft and subtle.

Wear a soft eye shadow, a natural looking blush and black mascara. (Pixi have the perfect solution for you with the Book of Beauty Minimal Makeup.)

Step 3 – A shade that suits

Everyone has their own perfect shade of red lipstick. If you have thin lip steer clear of deep reds, as they tend to make lips look smaller. If your skin has neutral or cool undertones, a red with a hint of blue is a good bet. You could try this beautifully classic red from the Olivia Palermo X Ciate London Range in Velveteen. If your skin has warm or golden hues, an orange-based red could be right up your street, like the gorgeous Red Pepper from Bourjois.

If you want a precise, polished look, use a lip brush to apply. For a softer, more informal finish, either apply straight from the tube or carefully dab on with a finger.

Step 4 – Lip liner

Be very careful if you’re wearing a red lip liner! If it doesn’t match your red lipstick perfectly, you could end up with a two-tone effect. DuWop have an amazing Reverse Lipliner that is virtually invisible but will keep your lipstick from bleeding.

Step 5 – Concealer

Skipping lip pencil? Concealer is also perfect for preventing your lipstick from ‘bleeding’. Apply a little bit of concealer around the borders of your mouth for a flawless finish.

There you have it – your perfect red lip! Now get out there and rock that red lippie!
