The Ordinary Retinol 0.5% in Squalane is a medium-strength treatment that delivers excellent anti-aging benefits. Retinol stimulates skin cell renewal so that skin acts and looks younger. It helps to reduce the appearance of lines, wrinkles and photo damage.

Why you need it

The Ordinary Retinol 0.5% in Squalane is water-free solution containing 0.5% pure Retinol, an ingredient that has been proven to have significant anti-ageing benefits. Retinol (also known as Vitamin A) can reduce the appearances of fine lines, photo damage and of general skin ageing. Retinol works by communicating with skin cells, increasing skin cell turnover and collagen production. It also has powerful anti-oxidant properties helping to counteract environmental damage.
The Ordinary Retinol 0.5% in Squalane is an ideal follow-on treatment if you have previously used The Ordinary Retinol 0.2% in Squalane.

As Retinol can cause significant irritation in the early stages of treatment while skin builds tolerance, if you have not used high-strength retinol formulas in the past, we strongly recommend that you start with The Ordinary Retinol 0.2% in Squalane and adjust to higher strengths as your skin builds tolerance. Alternatively you could use The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane or The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane, newer technologies exist that mimic the visible effects of Retinol without causing skin irritation. You will achieve the same end results without the unpleasant redness and peeling along the way.

how to use
Apply a small amount to face in the PM as part of your skincare regimen, after water serums but before heavier treatments. Do not use with other Retinoid treatments. Avoid unprotected solar exposure. Store in a cool, dry place.

When to use:
Before Oils/Creams. PM Only.

Conflicts:
Do not use with other retinoid treatments. Do not use if pregnant/breastfeeding. Use of direct acids (Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid etc) may increase skin's sensitivity if used together with Retinols/Retinoids so please monitor how your skin responds and reduce or discontinue use if necessary.

Important:
Products containing Retinol are not recommended for use during pregnancy or when breast-feeding. Always use a daily SPF when using products containing Retinol.

I’m in my 20s and I bought this as a nice trial for retinol, for anti ageing purposes. I haven’t been using it long enough to notice any difference in that respect, but the squalene does feel nice and nourishing on my skin at bedtime. It definitely doesn’t cause dry patches and irritation like other retinol products. So far so good.

I purchased the Ordaniry Retionl 0.5% in Squalane about 2 weeks ago. It hasn’t irritated my skin but I find it very greasy and although it comes in a bottle with a dropper air can get in when you open it so I’m not sure how long the product will last.
As I’ve only been using this product for the past 2 weeks I can’t see any noticeable difference in my face but I believe it can take up to 4 weeks to notice any significant changes.

I love this product. You do need to build up a tolerance to it so small amount every couple of days at first. After this i use it every night now it soaks in well and leaves your skin super soft and it’s definitely tackling smaller wrinkles

Hi there, after using this, we would recommend you avoid moisturisers which contain Retinol/Retinoids or other strong ingredients like AHAs/Glycolic Acid, BHA/Salicylic Acid etc. Apart from that, most moisturisers should be fine.
