Is Double Cleansing Necessary? Let's find out...

OH YES IT IS BEAUTS!

To ensure your face is really squeaky clean, we highly recommend to double cleanse. After the first cleanse, you will be surprised by how much more product can come off your face in your second cleanse, as it's the second cleanse that really cleans your skin. A bit frightening when you see it but not to worry beauts, it’s never too late to start, and we’re here to help.

What is double cleansing, we hear you say? Double cleansing quite literally means cleansing your face twice, but in different ways. Double cleansing involves using two different types of cleansers, one right after the other. The idea behind double cleansing is to use different formulas for both. First start with using a cleansing oil, balm or micellar water to first remove your makeup, sunscreen or general dirt. This is essentially your removal of the top later of makeup or eye makeup. Loosening this top later and removing it, leaves your skin ready for the proper skin cleanse. After your first cleanse, follow with a proper cleanser, whether that be a cream or gel cleanser. The reason to use an oil, balm or micellar water for your first cleanse, is so that it paves its way and cleans the majority of product from your face, leaving it much easier for your more expensive cleanser to work its magic. The second cleanse is what REALLY cleans your skin, and it's best to use your best quality cleanser here. If on a budget (trust us, we've all been there!), use the best you can afford for both cleanses, only for the first cleanse use a much smaller amount as this is just to loosen the makeup. Then for the second cleanse, you can use more of it to give your skin a proper, thorough clean. We do say a second cleanse is key ...except in the mornings, of course. There is no need to double cleanse in the morning as you have no SPF or makeup to remove. Your morning cleanse is just to simply clean the skin.

Double cleansing can also help if you have very oily skin, as your regular cleanser may not remove enough excess oil on your skin. A strong single cleanser can be quite harsh if you have sensitive skin and leave it feeling tight and dry. Using two gentle cleansers will work much better for your skin and still do the same work. Why work harder when you can work smarter 😉
